It'll be Alright.

Recent Inspirations

One of my favorite musicians is Jonas Bjerre, originally of the band Mew, but involved now with other projects like Apparatjik and solo projects. Checking in today on Mew, I discover Jonas’ solo project production for a Danish movie.  I’ve been listening to the album in their embed all day, listen above.

It got me thinking.  In order to do creative work, I always need inspiration.  Before I get started on big projects, I often find myself going on inspirational journeys on the web.  I had one of those today, so I figured I’d share it with you.

Obviously, the above was one.

I was reminded of my friend Steven Keller today when I was thinking about taking panoramas (we’re going a little backwards here).  He took this picture of me and the Bay Bridge in SF when he visited a few weeks back.

I was thinking about Panoramic apps which had lead me to that.  I want to start taking Panoramic pictures of my adventures in SF.  If you have an iPhone, you guys have a great app that he uses.  For us Android users like me, that’s one department we’re lacking in but we do have this app that I’ll be trying out.

I got to that, because I’d really like to start making 3D Renderings of buildings in SF (if they haven’t already been made) with Google Sketchup.  I already started making a mock of the inside of our base here in SF.  My grandiose aspirations would be that we would eventually have an accurate to scale 3D rendering of the base so we could figure out things like where things could fit, measurements without having to measure (like a few weeks ago when one of our windows broke and we had to awkwardly measure the dimensions with giant glass shards hanging inches from our hands).  Though, this is grandiose and I’d probably never get around to it because of the volume of other things needing done.

Still, I was inspired by Google’s tribute site to their success of the Google Earth engine.  Its fascinating to see all the applications one platform like this can be used for.  My favorite by far was Virtual Alabama.  The state of Alabama uses Google Earth’s industry level software to monitor hundreds of aspects of the state’s workings like hurricane damage, zoning, wildlife protection, etc.  Fascinating.

All of this was because of Google Reader.  If you don’t use a Feed Reader platform yet, or read feeds at all, if you want to get a lot of cool stuff from the web, I would suggest trying it.  I use it to keep tabs on what current DTSers are writing and experiencing, follow HackCollege to find resources we can use here at YWAMSF, listen to the Bible with Daily Audio Bible’s RSS feed, and much more.  It’s like my universal newspaper for each day.

Phew.  So that’s a little look at my internet tunnelings for inspiration.  If anyone knows of a good device to share history, that’d be great.  If this was helpful or inspirational, let me know.  If so, I might become more frequent with it.
